John Garver is the author of nine books, several monographs and over 100 journal articles and book chapters dealing with China's foreign relations. His books include: China and Iran, Ancient Partners in a Post-Imperial World; The Vital Triangle; China, the United States, and the Middle East; The Protracted Contest, China-Indian Rivalry in the Twentieth Century; Face Off: China; the United States, and Taiwan Democratization. He has conducted China-related research at centers from Stockholm to Tehran to Khabarovsk, Jerusalem to Islamabad, and Yangong to Beijing and Seoul.
Garver has served on the editorial boards of the journals China Quarterly, Journal of Contemporary China, Asian Security, Issues and Studies, and the Journal of American - East Asian Relations. He is a member of the National Committee on U.S. - China Relations and the U.S. - China People's Friendship Association and has testified before the China Commission of the U.S. Congress. He participates frequently in forums on China and Asian international relations, from presentations to local community groups to policy oriented discussions in various capitals.
